Welcome!
Family Drug Support (FDS) offers you a warm welcome to our website!
We have designed our site by drawing on the experiences of those families who have used and benefited from our services over the past decade or so.
We have incorporated a wide range of information and advice, which we hope you will find helpful and supportive regarding drug and alcohol misuse.
Where it all began
Family Drug Support was born in 1996 when a Herefordshire mother who was affected by her son’s substance misuse, discovered a lack of local specialised support for family and friends of drug users.
From these humble beginnings, FDS has grown into a nationally recognised charity with a dedicated Co-ordinator and team of volunteers as well as a pro-active board of trustees.
At FDS our motto is ‘Confidential, Caring & Understanding’ and we offer all our clients a friendly and professional service. .
About us
Here at Family Drug Support, we can offer you a range of different services to suit your needs because at the end of the day we’re here to help you.
Help line
Our confidential telephone help line provides crisis as well as on going support for any family member who feels they need it. Our trained team will talk to you about the problems you’re currently facing and will fully understand the difficulty of the situation. We will offer you support along with advice on how to cope, substance misuse information and / or signposting to other agencies if necessary.
We understand that sometimes you would prefer to receive support via E-Mail as opposed to in person and we’re more than happy to oblige. We guarantee that you will still receive the same confidential help and advice from our team as you would with the telephone help line.
Support group
We also hold a fortnightly support group in Hereford normally at The Kindle Centre (near ASDA) which offers a much needed facility for families to meet, chat and share their common experiences. It also allows you to acquire information on a range of topics, including drug treatment and the Criminal Justice Service. We aim to focus on self-help and coping strategies to enable you to lead as normal a life as possible.
One to one support
If you feel you’d like more individual support, we’re more than happy to offer family members a tailored support package. Our one to one support is available whenever you need it and we’ll arrange the time and venue to suit you and your family.
Support Booklets
When you contact Family Drug Support, we can provide you with a number of FDS designed booklets. These booklets contain a range of detailed information, telephone numbers and websites also useful tips on coping. We can either send these to your home address or bring them along to one of our support group meetings, whichever is easiest for you.
